On this day in hockey history… 1938 –  Former NHL player King Clancy made his debut as a referee when Chicago defeated the Canadiens 3-2 in Montreal.

 Montreal Canadiens: November 6

  • Canadiens had the day off on Thursday.

  • Michael Bournival will miss a minimum of 2-3 weeks with a shoulder injury pending more medical tests. Bournival left the First Niagara Centre on Wednesday night with his left arm in a sling. He left the game with just over two minutes remaining in the first period of Wednesday’s game after a check by Sabres Cody McCormick.
  • Defenceman Jarred Tinordi was assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs. After playing two games in the AHL, he will rejoin the Canadiens on Sunday.

  • Montreal Canadiens legend, Guy Lapointe’s, jersey will be retired by the club on November 8th in a ceremony prior to the game against Minnesota. The Bell Centre doors will open at 5pm with the ceremony set to begin at 6:30pm.
  • His daughter, Stephanie Lapointe posted the following photo to Twitter.

Blackhawks unveil Winter Classic jersey

  • On Wednesday, the Chicago Blackhawks unveiled the jerseys they will wear when they face Washington on January 1st for the 2015 Winter Classic.

► Penguins ink Flower

  • The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Wednesday that they had signed goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury to a four-year contract extension with an average annual salary of $5.75 million.
  • Penguins’ head coach, Mike Johnston, talked about the importance of Fleury, “He’s such a key guy in the dressing room. We talk often about what he’s done on the ice, but in and around the guys in the room he’s a real key chemistry guy. He’s always energetic, always has a smile on his face. Guys battle hard for him, they play for him.”
  •  Pittsburgh’s’ general manager, Jim Rutherford added, “As long as I’m GM here, he’s my goalie.”
