  • The Canadiens held a 30-minute practice at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard on Wednesday ahead of their Thursday night game against the St. Louis Blues.
  • Looking towards the game against St. Louis, Coach Michel Therrien said, “There’s no question that the Blues are a machine, and they have the same Stanley Cup aspirations as the Penguins. It will be another big test for us. They make good decisions with and without the puck. They’re mature, and their play is on point.”

Wednesday’s Practice

  • Mike Weaver was absent from practice. He is listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury.
  • The following were the forward lines and defence pairings at practice on Wednesday morning.

Max Pacioretty – David Desharnais – P.A. Parenteau
Alex Galchenyuk – Tomas Plekanec – Brendan Gallagher
Jiri Sekac – Lars Eller – Brandon Prust
Drayson Bowman – Manny Malhotra – Dale Weise

P.K. Subban – Andrei Markov
Alexei Emelin – Sergei Gonchar
Nathan Beaulieu – Tom Gilbert

► McCarron respected by mates

  • Habs prospect Michael McCarron received a two-game suspension after leaving the bench to defend teammate Mitch Marner in a game on Friday against the Owen Sound Attack.  McCarron scored a hat trick in the game to continue his strong start to the season.  London head coach Dale Hunter also received two games for failing to control his players.
  • Linemate Max Domi who has nine goals and 31 assists had this to say about McCarron, “He’s playing unbelievable. He’s really what makes me. He’s a big part of why our team is going right now. He’s a strong force up the middle.”
  • Watch Domi’s comments those by Knight’s assistant coach Dylan Hunter on McCarron in this report by CTV London’s Norman James.

► Bergevin preferred Rielly

  • Chris Johnston, Senior Hockey Writer for Sportsnet, says that GM Marc Bergevin would have selected defenceman Morgan Rielly with the third overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Instead, Bergevin deferred the decision to Trevor Timmins picking forward Alex Galchenyuk.  Bergevin had just been appointed to the position of GM by the Canadiens seven weeks prior to the draft.
  • Reilly, an offensive defenceman, was taken fifth overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

 Time share

  • Managing ice time is key to having a successful all-around team. Canadiens’ head coach, Michel Therrien, talks about the importance, “Jean-Jacques (Daigneault) is doing excellent work when it comes to distributing ice time evenly. Certain defensemen are seeing their ice time go down, and we’re trying to share it as much as possible. That’s not a bad thing given the schedule we have right now. We’re in a tough stretch and it’s important to distribute the workload amongst everybody.”
  • Therrien added, “We’re in a part of the schedule right now that’s very taxing on the players. We just finished a sequence of five games in eight nights, and you have to manage your players’ energy levels with this schedule.”
