KYOKO INA AND KELLY CHASE ARE THE SIXTH ICED PAIR ON
BATTLE OF THE BLADES

– Ekaterina Gordeeva And Valeri Bure Avoid Elimination To Secure Their Spot In The Top Three –

CBC Press Release

TORONTO – November 15, 2010 – Proving just how quickly things can change when skating on thin ice, Kyoko Ina and Kelly Chase were the sixth eliminated pair on BATTLE OF THE BLADES. Ekaterina Gordeeva and Valeri Bure, who also found themselves in the bottom two, will remain in the game for their chance to take home the Crystal trophy and $100,000 donation to their charities of choice in next week’s finale.

After a challenging performance on Sunday night that had Kelly and Kyoko skating to “I Love Your Smile” by Charlie Winston, they received a total judging score of 17.3. Though tonight’s performance improved in technical elements, it was not enough to keep them in the game. This week’s judging panel: Sandra Bezic, Jeremy Roenick and guest judge Don Cherry were faced with an extremely difficult decision; but after Katia and Val’s near-flawless skate they were left with no choice. For their efforts, the Saskatchewan Children’s Hospital Foundation will receive a $25,000 donation in Kyoko and Kelly’s honour.

On Sunday, November 21 at 8 p.m. there will be one final performance show with the Top Three pairs skating. The BATTLE OF THE BLADES finale will air Monday, November 22 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. local time, during which time all eight pairs will return to the ice for the winning pair will be announced, awarded the Crystal trophy and given the $100,000 donation to their favourite charity.

The Top Three pairs are: Shae-Lynn Bourne and Patrice Brisebois, Isabelle Brasseur and Todd Warriner, Katia Gordeeva and Valeri Bure.
