Canadiens call up Shawn Belle

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens announced Tuesday that defenseman Shawn Belle has been recalled from the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs.

Belle, 24, participated in his second training camp with the Canadiens last September. He played in three of the club’s seven preseason games, before being released on September 21. The 6’01’’, 240 lbs defenseman played in 60 games with the Bulldogs last season. He registered 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists), posted a +19 plus/minus differential and totalled 93 penalty minutes.

Belle was acquired from the Minnesota Wild on July 11, 2008. He played in nine career NHL regular season games in 2006-07.
