Bob Gainey decided that purgatory for Sergei Kostitsyn has been long enough.

RDS has learned that Kostitsyn was recalled from Hamilton Bulldogs, to whom he was assigned in mid-February, after the defeat of Canadiens Saturday against the Maple Leafs.

Before being removed from the score sheet the same night against the Chicago Wolves, the younger brother Kostitsyn recorded a point in nine consecutive games.

In 16 games with the Bulldogs, he collected 14 points.

He is also proud that Habs Tweetups have allowed fans to meet in person and develop long lasting friendships.

  1. It’s about time that they called him back up. At the end of the day he’s a very good player, and with older brother Andrei doing nothing the Habs really need his talent.

Unfortunately, what the Habs are really lacking is some “sandpaper” in their lineup. They need something more than the gentle giant George Laraque. Lapierre, Komisarek, and Latendresse haven’t been much of a presence lately.

  2. Ironically, he may end up replacing his brother in the lineup.

Bob Gainey is a victim of his own stubborness. He refuses to admit that he made a mistake with Kovalev (his first major deal as Habs G.M.), and refuses to acknowledge that his sidekick Timmins made a mistake on A. Kostitsyn (his first move as Habs head of scouting).

Kovalev has been an anchor around the team’s neck for the past 4 seasons, and A. Kostitsyn will take his place in that regard for the next 3 or so.
