Habs Rookie Camp

  • Fans can watch the future of the organization battle it out in the Canadiens Rookie camp scrimmage at 4 pm. today (with commentary) here.

Audette, Gregoire listed as Top 10 ‘Players to Watch’ in the Q

  • Two Canadiens prospects taking part at Rookie Camp have been listed as potential breakout players in the QMJHL this year by the Chronicle Herald. Daniel Audette, centre for the Sherbrooke Phoenix takes the No. 5 spot with Baie-Comeau Drakkar winger Jeremy Gregoire sliding in at No. 8. The complete list is here.

► Andrighetto looking to bump a vet

  • It’s fair to say that there will be a roster spot or two available for a young winger to earn this pre-season. Focus has been on Jacob de la Rose, Jiri Sekac and even Drayson Bowman. Bulldogs forward Sven Andrighetto has served notice that he should be included in the group even if that means displacing a veteran.
  • Andrighetto said, “I focus on one job and that is to make the team in Montreal. I know it will not be easy to get a spot with the big club, but I have confidence in my abilities. The Canadiens won’t create a job for me, I will be better than a veteran to earn my place. It’s pretty simple, I will aim to push a veteran out of training camp.”

Captaincy to be decided upon soon

  • There are many candidates to succeed Brian Gionta as the Canadiens’ captain including, but not limited to P.K Subban, Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Markov and Max Pacioretty. If I were a betting man, I would put my money on Plekanec.
  • Leaders don’t always wear a letter. During discussions about the Canadiens captain, a common refrain from NHL players and media is ‘This is Carey Price‘s team.’
  • Canadiens management will select the new captain and are expected to announce their choice before training camp starts.

► Jersey to be raised during Wild visit

  • Book your tickets! Guy Lapointe, Coordinator of Amateur Scouting for the Minnesota Wild, will have his jersey retired on Saturday, November 8th when the Wild visit the Bell Centre.

► Guess who’s back? Or is he?

  • It’s no secret that the strength of the Canadiens prospect pool is defense. Jarred Tinordi and Nathan Beaulieu are both ready for primetime with Greg Pateryn, Magnus Nygren, Morgan Ellis and Darren Dietz in the pipeline.  But it’s also no secret that coach Michel Therrien is quite fond of veteran Francis Bouillon.
  • According to reports, Bouillon was given two options: accept a two-way contract or report to camp with a professional tryout contract. Bouillon chose the later.
  • Bouillon is also exploring options to play in the Swiss League.
