Canadiens sign goaltender Dustin Tokarski to a two-year contract extension

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today a two-year contract extension for goaltender Dustin Tokarski (2014-15 to 2015-16).

In three games with the Canadiens in 2013-14, Tokarski registered a 2-0-0 record, including his first career win with the Canadiens, on March 5 at Anaheim. The 5’11’’and 195 lbs goaltender earned his first career shutout in the NHL, a 2-0 win on March 16 at Buffalo. He posted a 1.84 goals against average, and stopped 88 of the 93 shots he faced for a .946 save percentage. In 10 career regular-season games with Montreal and the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tokarski displays a 3-3-1 record, with a 2.93 goals against average and a .902 save percentage.

Tokarski, 24, participated in 40 games with the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs thus far this season, registering a 20-15-3 record, with one shutout. He shows a 2.36 goals against average and a .920 save percentage.

A native of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Tokarski was the Lightning’s third pick (fifth round, 122nd overall) at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired from Tampa Bay for Cédrick Desjardins on February 14, 2013.
