Higgins tries to ignore trade rumors

An excerpt from The Fourth period article:

Canadiens sniper Chris Higgins has yet to play a single regular-season game, but that hasn’t stopped trade rumors from suggesting he could be dealt.

Higgins, who will make his season debut tonight against the Florida Panthers, has been the subject of a number of rumors dating back to last season.

According to Montreal’s La Presse, he is trying not to let all the chatter bother him.

“I’m starting to be a little bothered [by all the speculation],” he told the paper. “But as a professional athlete, you don’t have a choice not to hear these type of things.

“It’s been 12 years that Saku Koivu has been with the Canadiens and he never stops hearing rumors about him. Nobody is free of that.”

Higgins, 25, feels flattered that other teams are high on him. Last season, Atlanta Thrashers GM Don Waddell mentioned that Higgins would be a player he’d like to acquire if he was to trade Marian Hossa to the Habs. Higgins believes that could be a reason why “my name continues to circulate.”
