Coach Mike Babcock

mike-babcock

  • “I thought [Carey Price] was great. It’s like anything; you build a resume over time in your career, whether you’re a coach or whether you’re a writer or whether you hold a camera. You build a resume and it gives you confidence. He’s done that over time. He’s a guy who I think is big and square and soft. He gives your team confidence. I thought he played real good tonight.”
  • I think the last time we played in the Olympics, 27 of 33 million [Canadians] watched the [gold medal] game. Everybody’s interested. Everyone’s invested. Why wouldn’t they second-guess what you’re doing and question what you’re doing?”
  • “Having said that, you have to line up the moon and stars to win [the gold medal]. People don’t always believe that in Canada, but it’s the facts.”

  •  Coach Babcock said he’s a “big fan of Swedes.”

Forward Ryan Getzlaf

  • “I told (Carey) Price after the game: He controls the whole pace of the game when he eats pucks and swallows them, gets those faceoffs for us. It slows everything down and calms our team down.””

Goaltender Carey Price

  • “Believe in yourself. Believe in the preparation you put in. And obviously that team playing in front of me gave everything tonight.”
  • “Our relentlessness (was key.) We backchecked real hard tonight. We were on top of the puck. We were winning battles.”
  •  “Everything comes down to preparation. We’ve been prepared this whole tournament. We just gotta keep doing the same things.”
  • “For me, it was just about stopping the puck. That was priority No. 1. That was my only focus.”

Forward Jamie Benn

  • “It doesn’t get much better than that. We found a way to win and it was a great team effort.”
  • “You know, it’s a lot of fun. Those are the games you want to play in – the big ones — the ones that matter the most. I’m definitely looking forward to the next one.”

Defenseman Jay Bouwmeester

  • “I’ve played in front of lots of good goalies, but today [Carey Price] was great. He’s so calm. Nothing really fazes him, even the chances they did have he made some good saves. He just was never really out of position, and I think when you watch him, that’s impressive.”

Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo

  • “(CareyPrice has been unbelievable. This whole tournament, we’ve been pretty confident. You see his composure on your side of the ice. He sees the ice. He sees the play coming in and he talks. Really, you talk about everything that a goaltender needs, Price has got it.”

USA defenseman Ryan Suter

  • “It’s tough to win when you don’t play in the offensive zone.”

USA head coach Dan Bylsma

  • “They came at us with 20 guys tonight. They came at us with speed, they came at us for 60 minutes, and that was a fast game. That was as fast a game as I’ve ever been a part of. There was lots of speed out there, it was up and down the ice, and we weren’t able to counter that as much as we’d like.”
