Here’s an excerpt from the Canadiens.com article by Manny Almela:
Having finished up the 2008 playoffs with an impressive nine points in seven games after battling back from a broken foot, Koivu will get the chance to join some elite company in the Canadiens’ record books this coming season.
Team captain since 1999-2000, Koivu now boasts the second-longest reign in club history behind only Jean Beliveau as he continues to leave his mark on the rich tradition of the league’s most storied franchise. Thanks to his 56 points last season, Koivu passed former Habs Claude Provost and Mario Tremblay on the all-time points list, and that may be only the beginning for the 33-year-old center.
Gunning for his sixth straight 50-plus point season, Koivu is now breathing down the neck of some of the biggest names in team history.
With 591 points now under his belt, Koivu is on the brink of leapfrogging the likes of Dickie Moore (594), Mats Naslund (612), and Elmer Lach (623) as he climbs his way into the Canadiens Top 10.
