6. Alex Tanguay, Mon LW
2009 Outlook: Tanguay played a secondary role in Calgary, rarely lining up with Jarome Iginla at even strength or on the power play. It showed in his totals, as he dropped from his perennial 80-point range to a mere 58 points. The Canadiens have bought him in to prop up their weaker port side, and he’ll likely play opposite the resurgent Alexei Kovalev. More of a passer than a shooter, Tanguay should fit in well with a sniper like Kovalev and will benefit from playing on Montreal’s potent power play.

Tanguay becomes the Habs best forward, and one of the team’s top three players right off the top. Great trade.

I don’t know if he will be the Canadiens best forward but he certainly will one of their best two way forwards, thanks to playing under Mike Keenan’s defense first system.
Tanguay didn’t flourish in Keenan’s rigid system but he learned to play defense and kill penalties. He will thrive under the offensively minded Canadiens system with more skilled players to play with.
One thing is for sure, if he remains healthy, he will probably add an extra 15-20 points to his 2007-08 season total of 58 points.
He is a great skater with a great wrist shot and a very good playmaking winger. Watch for Koivu, Higgins and Kovalev’s point totals to raise as well with Tanguay feeding them the puck on the powerplay and 5 on 5 situations…….you’re right, Tanguay will be a great addition to the lineup!!
