The 2015-16 season got off to an exciting start on Wednesday night when the Montreal Canadiens traveled to Toronto for a rivalry matchup against the Maple Leafs.  Despite the Habs looking a bit sloppy, especially in the second period, they were able to have an offensive presence.  Newly-anointed captain Max Pacioretty lit the lamp first with a beauty shot in the first period.  A potential goal in the second was overturned with the NHL’ s first coach’s challenge.  James van Riemsdyk managed to tie things up for the Leafs in the second frame, but Alex Galchenyuk regained the lead for Montreal in the third while Pacioretty earned his second of the night with an empty-netter.  Final score: Canadiens, 3-1. Saturday night brought about another Habs rivalry as they took to the ice in TD Garden to face the Boston Bruins.  Carey Price continued to look like the MVP goaltender he was last season, making a number of spectacular saves.  David Desharnais gave the Canadiens an early lead with a powerplay goal less than two minutes into the game.   Lars Eller left his mark on Tuuka Rask as he scored consecutive even-strength goals in the second period.  The Bruins challenged a goal that was waved off by the officials, but this time the challenge went in Montreal’s favor.  Tomas Plekanec earned his 500th NHL point when he potted an empty-netter with 52 seconds left in the game.  Final score: Canadiens, 4-2. Sunday night brought the first back-to-back game of the season, and with it came Mike Condon’s NHL debut as netminder for the Canadiens.  Plekanec got the offense moving early with two goals in the first period.  Torrey Mitchell followed suit in the third period with a goal of his own, giving the Habs a two-goal advantage to win the game.  Final score: Canadiens 3-1.
