► Pacioretty is an elite sniper

• Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick is back for a second time in his series about the game’s best shooters called Elite Snipers 101: Part 2 for The Players Tribune. This time Quick provides insight on Steven Stamkos, Anze Kopitar, John Tavares and the Canadiens own Max Pacioretty.
• Quick calls Pacioretty, “the most underrated player in the NHL” and to make his point cites the fact that “only three players have scored more goals than him over the past three seasons.” Yet Pacioretty’s name is rarely mentioned in the same terms as Patrick Kane, Alex Ovechkin or Corey Perry causing Quick to write, “It blows my mind that he’s not talked about more because he’s such a great scorer.”
• Quick provides this analysis of Pacioretty’s strengths: “When you’re playing Max, you have to be very aware of his quick snapshot. He’s able to release the shot so quickly and with so much power that you have to know where it’s going ahead of time to have a chance to stop it. The thing that separates Max is that his shots are as accurate and consistent as you’re going to see in the NHL. He can pick a little sliver of space better than anyone, so if you’re deep in your net when he releases it, it’s game over.”

► Savard joins Devils

• The New Jersey Devils named Andre Savard to their pro scouting staff on Tuesday. Savard had a rather undistinguished tenure as the Canadiens GM from 2000 to 2003.
• Savard was with the Pittsburgh Penguins for eight years with three seasons as an assistant coach to Michel Therrien.  Savard also spent 10 seasons with the Quebec Nordiques as part of their coaching and scouting staff.

► Juulsen on Team Canada, Habs

• Canadiens prospect Noah Juulsen is part of the Team Canada Showcase in Calgary this week hoping to crack the lineup for the 2016 junior team. He spoke with TSN 1040 radio about his experiences at Canada Olympic Park and about being selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft in June.
• On the Team Canada workout: “It was good. It’s fast-paced for sure.”
• On the Canadiens Development camp: “It was still pretty intense even at Habs camp.[Each session] was an hour long or so. It was still fast, high-intensity and everyone is trying to make their point, right?”
• On being drafted by the Canadiens: “I mean, it’s amazing, just sitting there and waiting. You wait until you hear your name. And you get to the end and you kinda like suspect you don’t really know if you’re gonna go now. But I mean the feeling when you hear your name, it just means everything to you, right?”
• On playing for Team Canada in Helsinki in January: “It would be amazing. It’s like a dream come true. Every kid watches [the World Junior Championship] and every kid dreams of it. It’s just something that everyone wants to do. Every year, I watched it. And I thought maybe one day I could be there but who knows, right? When you put [the Team Canada jersey] on, it just means everything to you.”

► Bournival remains confident

• Michael Bournival looks to be in a tough position to make the opening night roster for the Canadiens this season. Bournival had an unremarkable season in 2014-15 that stands in the way of having a lock on a bottom-6 role for this upcoming season. While Bournival had injury issues with a concussion and shoulder problems, the simple truth is that several other prospects eclipsed him on the Canadiens depth chart with superior play.
• In an interview (in French) with Jean-Francois Chaumont for the Journal de Montreal, Bournival says that he has heard a lot of things about the logjam for a position but insists that “you build a team on the ice and not on paper.”
• Bournival’s confidence comes come knowing that he is the type of player favored by coach Michel Therrien saying “I’m a hard-working guy who sacrifices myself for the team.” He knows that it will be up to him “to prove that I belong at training camp.”
• Bournival had three goals and two assists last season. He signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Canadiens for the upcoming year that will pay him $600,000 in the NHL and $125,000 in the AHL.
