Game Report

Like a broken record, the Canadiens had a slow start at the Bell Centre. The Kings scored twice in 19 seconds midway through the first period to take a stranglehold on this game. Los Angeles had a dominant opening frame outshooting their hosts 16-to-5.

For the first 40 minutes, Kirby Dach was back at centre looking quite comfortable in his natural position. But needing some offence, Marty St. Louis reunited Dach with his first line mates, Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.

The Kings extended their lead in the third period. Montreal briefly made a game of it with goals by Mike Hoffman and Caufield. But an empty-net goal sealed this game.

The Canadiens looked sluggish throughout having been idle since Tuesday. A revamped lineup to adjust for injuries seemed to cause confusion and missed coverage.

This was the second game this season for the powder blue Reverse Retro 2.0 jerseys. In their only other appearance, the Canadiens were beaten 5-1 by the New Jersey Devils.

The Canadiens are back in action on Monday night as they host the Calgary Flames at the Bell Centre.

What Did They Say?

Post-game Quotes

Marty St. Louis

  • “If you throw the puck deep into their territory and use your speed to prevent them from making their play — including preventing them from seeing the play develop in the reflection of the glass — then you can apply pressure. We will continue to study this and try to learn how to do better.”

Jake Allen

  • “It’s Saturday night we should have some jump but it definitely not the start we wanted and definitely not the game we wanted to play. It’s not our brand of hockey but we’ll re-group tomorrow and we have another tough test against the Flames on Monday.”

Mike Hoffman

  • “I felt pretty good, considering I haven’t played for three weeks. I got my breath back, and my legs, so it’s been pretty good.”
