Game ReportWinning is fun! And for the first time this season, the Canadiens have won two games in a row. The milestone didn’t arrive until the 50th game of the season, but credit to Canadiens fans for having the patience to wait for its arrival. Next goal: winning two games in a row in regulation! The wait for an NHL victory has been even longer for Andrew Hammond. The 34-year-old showed some rust against the Isles but scrambled and battled through to earn a win today for the first time since April 2016. Jeff Petry continued on an upward trend by scoring again, his second goal in three games. During that period, Petry has four points. Ben Chiarot was deployed on his off side in this game in his return since spending a week on injured reserve for an ankle injury. There is plenty of speculation that one of the Canadiens potential trade partners made the request to observe how he performed. One would have to assume that they were suitably impressed as Chiarot had a strong game, playing just short of 24 minutes. As with anything balance is key. A victory here and there is a good thing to boost morale of the players. It also helps showcase their talent to scouts in a winning environment. But the Canadiens are desperate for top-end talent and need the best odds of obtaining it from the upcoming entry draft. So, fans hope to see hockey over the next 22 games that is competitive and entertaining. But most wouldn’t be sorry to see the Canadiens finish at the bottom of the standings.
