Last game : MTL 2  OTT 1  F/OT   Injuries to the Habs have given Nick Suzuki a great opportunity and he has taken the most of it. His power-play goal marked is ninth goal and 27th point putting him fourth in the rookie scoring race. After the Habs gave up a flukey third period goal, Ilya Kovalchuk ended it with the game-winning goal in overtime.

Players to watch

  • Ilya Kovalchuk
    The Habs are enjoying the point per game offence that Kovalchuk has provided. His bad defensive game means he will continue to move down the lineup as injured players return but he may have done enough to find himself on a playoff team after the deadline.
  • Victor Mete
    Mete is not yet at 100 percent health but his speed is back and he’s starting to look comfortable on the ice again. He looked much better on Saturday night.
  • Nick Cousins
    Cousins needs to simplify his game. He has cost the Habs more than once with bad penalties and has been a minus player the last few games.  

Keys to Victory

  • Be physical
    Carey Price had to deal with Brady Tkachuk on Saturday and now his brother Matthew is in town fresh off an incident with Zach Kassian. The Habs must keep an eye on Tkachuk and do a better job protecting their goaltender. 
  • Win special teams
    The Habs power-play is ranked tenth in the league and will need to make the most of their opportunities.
  • Play a strong third
    The Habs had a terrible third period against the Senators and know they can’t have that type of performance again.

 What to Expect by Sam Gerber
The Canadiens have a four percent chance of making the playoffs. It’s all but over but the Habs don’t give up easy. The Habs are still the higher scoring team and need to play that way from the start. Marc Bergevin will likely finalize his trade deadline plans based on these four games ahead of the All-Star break.
