Habster:

This is not a surprising move as there was high expectations for this year’s edition of the Washington Capitals. Team owner, Ted Leonsis gave GM George McPhee the off season budget to sign some high end UFA talent like Michael Nylander, Viktor Kozlov and Tom Poti but they have struggled with the worst record in the NHL ( 6-14-1).
Nylander and Kozlov were brought in specifically to improve the overall offensive production and give Alex Ovechkin a solid playmaking center who would be able to set up the talented Russian sniper. The Capitals have scored only 47 goals thus far which is the fourth lowest total in the NHL. Nylander has picked up his game (G-5 A-14 PT- 19) after a slow start while Poti and Kozlov have been ineffective for the most part. Let’s see if Boudreau can light a fire under these guys along with the rest of the team.
