Game Report

This was a high-paced game. As the Habs players said post-game, from the drop of the puck, it was a track meet. The Canadiens quickly discovered that, under the direction of Bruce Boudreau, the Canucks are a hard-working team, quite tenacious in all areas of the ice.

While the shots were relatively even in the first period, scoring chances were not. Vancouver dominated with eight high-danger chances to the Canadiens one. Montreal was fortunate to escape the first frame with a 1-1 tie.

The Habs kept it close with Artturi Lehkonen scoring twice before the game was 30 minutes old. Lehkonen now has 13 goals on the season and is tied for second in team goal scoring. Lehkonen added an assist in the third period for his first three-point game as a Canadien.

The Canucks dominated play again in the third period and the Canadiens suffered their first regulation loss in Vancouver since October 27, 2015. Typically Carey Price is in goal and he rarely loses in Vancouver. Sam Montembeault wasn’t up to the test tonight.

The Canadiens won three and lost two on their five-game road trip. They will remain in Vancouver on Wednesday night and return to Montreal on Thursday.
